The future of the oceans, the importance of climate change, food security, sustainable biodiversity management or the sustainable economy of the oceans, these were some of the topics discussed at the United Nations’ Ocean Decade Conference, which took place in Barcelona from 10 to 12 April. This event was a meeting point for experts and opinion leaders in the sector, as well as institutional representatives from all over the world, to reflect and take action to preserve the oceans.
In the days leading up to the conference, various “satellite” events took place with more than 100 activities organised, for people of all ages, related to oceanography and the city’s blue economy. One such event was the meeting entitled ‘Challenges of the Ocean Decade – The view from the next generation of ocean experts’, led by Dr. Isabel Cacho, Chair of the panel of judges of our Marine Sustainability Award. Oihane C. Basurko, winner of the Banco Sabadell Foundation 2022 Marine Sustainability award, took part in this event, chatting with students of marine sciences from different European universities, to promote dialogue between different generations through her experience as a research professional.
Don’t miss this conversation with Oihane, with which we launch a series of meetings with young talent forming part of the Banco Sabadell Foundation community.
