“Music is something very special because everyone understands it differently”, Guillem Gràcia, scholarship holder at the Reina Sofía School of Music

Guillem Gràcia (Barcelona, 2005) is our scholarship student at the Reina Sofía School of Music for this 2023-2024 academic year attending the Aline Foriel-Destezet cello lecture. He has been studying under the tutelage of Professor Jens Peter Maintz since 2019 with a baroque cello on loan as part of an instrument scholarship from Fundación Albéniz, the foundation behind the school.

Guillem began his cello studies at the age of 6, and in 2015 he started to study with Anna Mora, as part of the Grupcello.cat ensemble that she directs. He continued his studies at Conservatori Municipal de Terrassa under Professor Lluís Heras and was a student of the Cassadó lecture at Academia Marshall. Furthermore, in 2018 he attended the Amsterdam Cello Biennale as guest student and has won awards such as the 8th Concurs de Cordes de Barcelona; the Absolute prize at the MiN International Music Competition (Narvik, Norway) or the first prize at Concurso Intercentros Melómano, a competition in which he also received the third prize (superior grade) in 2021, among others.
 
As a student of the Reina Sofía School of Music, Guillem performed on renowned stages such as Gran Teatre del Liceu and has played with Orquesta Freixenet, conducted by maestros such as David Afkham, Andrés Orozco-Estrada, Péter Csaba and Sir András Schiff. He has also been a member of Camerata Fundación EDP, conducted by Paul Goodwin, and has participated in ensembles such as Cuarteto Ramales and the groups Ambage, Tchaikovsky de Management Solutions and Scarlatti de Casa de la Moneda. He is currently a member of the Satie de Bain threesome.
