Levon Avagyan enthralled the jury and the public in the final, playing Prokofiev’s ‘Concerto No. 3’ with the Catalan National Orchestra (JONC) at the Palau de la Música Catalana.
During the last few weeks, Barcelona has become the world stage for piano music thanks to the Maria canals International Music Competition, in which 81 pianists of 31 different nationalities aged between 18 and 30 competed for first place. The young man from Armenia seized his place in the final together with two others, pianist Hin-Yat Tsang, born in Hong Kong 24 years ago, who was runner-up with Chopin’s ‘Concerto No. 1’ and Canadian Anastasia Rizikov, 18, who played Tchaikovsky’s ‘Concerto No. 1’ and came third.
