On the occasion of the Princess of Asturias Awards, King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia invited all of the institutions who have been awarded Medallas de Asturias [Asturias Medals], including Banco Sabadell Foundation who was awarded the Silver Asturias Medal in recognition of its willingness and commitment to support culture and talent in Asturias.

On 7 September the Foundation received the Medal for its commitment to Asturian society in general, and to the University of Oviedo, through its collaboration with providing student grants and training programmes. This link with Asturias also highlights the aids given to research, the annual call of the Banco Sabadell Foundation Award for Economic Research, which singles out young researchers aged under 40 due to their excellence in economic, business and social research, as well as university training programs, scholarships for the Inter-American Development Bank, internship programmes for students, professorships such as those Leonard Cohen and Ángel González professorships or the Imagine Silicon Valley scholarship for 2016, amongst others.
