The Jury of the seventeenth Banco Sabadell Award for Economic Research has named Dr Laura Díaz Anadón as the winner of the 2018 award, consisting of €30,000, for her work on climate change, a project that combines core research with the development of public policy to guide the work carried out by governments and international organisations. The award will be given out on October 2nd at the Banco Sabadell headquarters in Oviedo.

The Jury of the seventeenth Banco Sabadell Award for Economic Research has named Dr Laura Díaz Anadón as the winner of the 2018 award, consisting of €30,000, for her work on climate change, a project that combines core research with the development of public policy to guide the work carried out by governments and international organisations.

Her research uses optimisation models, econometric methods, and in a number of cases has supplemented quantitative assessments with qualitative evaluations based on interviews. In particular, she has carried out an in-depth investigation into policies and technologies in the countries with the highest volumes of greenhouse gas emissions – the United States and China. This project analyses how different methods of distributing funds in national laboratories influence the transfer of technology to energy companies, and evaluates the impact that different policies aimed at promoting wind power can have on wind turbine productivity.

More about Dr Laura Díaz Anadón

Dr Díaz Anadón has a joint honours degree in chemical engineering and German (MEng) from the University of Manchester, and a PhD in chemical engineering from the University of Cambridge. She currently holds the chaired Professorship of Climate Change Policy at the University of Cambridge. At Cambridge, she is a Bye-Fellow at Peterhouse College and a Fellow at the Cambridge Centre for Environment, Energy and Natural Resource Governance (CEENRG). She is also a Research Associate at the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs at the Harvard Kennedy School.
