Researcher specialized in the sustainability of marine socio-ecological systems at the CIM (University of Vigo), where she leads the Future Oceans Lab group. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Sciences from the University of Salamanca and a PhD in Economics. During her postdoctoral career, Elena Ojea had a stay at the BC3 and at the University of California in Santa Barbara where she specialised in the adaptation to climate change. He publishes in leading journals, receiving prestigious international funds such as the ERC Starting Grant. His research has a high impact on decision-making thanks to his participation in United Nations reports, such as the latest IPCC report.

A graduate in Environmental Sciences from the University of Girona, and holder of a PhD in the field of sustainability of marine technologies from Newcastle University (United Kingdom, 2010). Since 2010 she has been part of the team at AZTI where her work has focused on the development of solutions for the fisheries, aquaculture and shipping sectors, and for the regional, national and European authorities. Through her research she seeks to help others to adopt new patterns of behaviour, aimed at fostering sustainability and the circular economy, in relation to both marine litter pollution and decarbonisation.
