The City Council, the Banco Sabadell Foundation and Fundación Empieza por Educar support projects to promote educational equity in the city of Sabadell

As part of the “Sabadell Centre of Culture” project, a collaboration agreement has been reached which will allow more resources to be ploughed into education.

Sabadell City Council, the Banco Sabadell Foundation and Fundación Empieza por Educar (the international network Teach for All) have drawn up a collaboration agreement with the goal of promoting projects in education. This new framework for cooperation will enable resources to be pooled and joint initiatives to be carried out to promote equity and educational success for students in the city of Sabadell.

With this in mind, Sabadell City Council and the Banco Sabadell Foundation have begun a new collaborative project, on this occasion related to education and aligned with the objectives of the Sabadell Centre of Culture, the new space to be dedicated to culture and knowledge that will further boost the city’s standing. The agreement also addresses both parties’ aspiration to promote a more dynamic social fabric and to spearhead initiatives that unite the academic world, local government, businesses and people.

The agreement establishes a general framework to support the implementation of a range of educational projects to improve the quality of education in the city, focusing, in particular, on reducing inequalities in education.

In this respect, one of the actions being carried out in the city with Fundación Empieza por Educar is the “Sabadell EduTalent” programme, a professional development programme aimed at young people and professionals who aspire to bring about educational and social change by promoting equal opportunities for all school age children.

There are currently two educational centres that have participants taking part in the Sabadell EduTalent programme: two participants at one centre and one at the other. In all cases, the participants contribute to strengthening the actions being carried out at the educational centres, and are encouraged to take the lead in new initiatives aimed at promoting educational equality. This agreement will make it possible to extend the scope of this project, increasing its educational impact in the city.

Work is ongoing at Sabadell City Council to define the strategic lines of this and other initiatives soon to be put in place, in line with the needs of the educational community and the will to work towards educational equity, at all times. For its part, the Banco Sabadell Foundation is providing economic resources to assist Fundación Empieza por Educar, which is responsible for organising and developing the actions associated with the initiative, in this case, the selection, training and support of those participating in the programme.

Fundación Empieza por Educar is a non-profit organisation, set up some years ago, which works to ensure that children and young people have equal opportunities in education, with a constant commitment to the training of the educational professionals themselves. The Banco Sabadell Foundation promotes training, research and showcasing activities in different fields, always with the aim of promoting young talent while, at the same time, seeking to contribute to the progress of their city of origin.

For some years now, Sabadell Town Council has worked to combat educational inequalities. This academic year 2024/2025, its efforts are focused on five lines of work: increasing equality of opportunities, reducing the number of early school leavers, promoting municipal education, ensuring educational equity and providing high quality facilities.
