The B-Value acceleration programme is an initiative for social enterprises that promotes the transformation of the third sector through innovation. Of the 40 institutions that started the programme, 10 of them were selected as finalists for the intense mentoring week that prepares them for the final event, the Demo Day. During this event, the companies pitched their projects to prominent figures in the third sector and philanthropy. It is the culmination of nine months of work from the institutions alongside more than 160 mentors, key professionals in strategic areas, with more than 450 hours of mentorship and training. Throughout the process, the participants received training and inspiration in areas relevant to their projects, such as economic sustainability, social impact and leadership, among others.
The Demo Day, held in the auditorium of the Banco Sabadell Tower in Barcelona and streamed online, started with the welcome from representatives of the programme sponsors: Sonia Mulero, Banco Sabadell Foundation’s Director; Inés Entrecanales, CEO of the Juan Entrecanales de Azcárate Foundation; and Clara Navarro, Ship2B Foundation’s CEO. In addition, the event featured contributions from Cristina Cabañas, Chair of Grupo Guitart Hoteles and the Climent Guitart Foundation and from Sonia Quibus, Banco Sabadell’s HR Director, who took to the stage to emphasise the important role of the 43 Bank employees who participated as mentors in this year’s edition. Miquel Molins, Chair of the Banco Sabadell Foundation, closed the event.
During the event, the organisers confirmed that the 7th Edition of the programme will be held in 2023 and highlighted the incorporation of the latest strategic partners: the ONCE Foundation, which has already participated in this 6th Edition, as well as Sabadell Seguros and the Joaquim Molins Figueras Foundation, which will participate next year. In addition, Bernardino Gómez Aritmendi, General Manager of BanSabadell Seguros Generales, BanSabadell Vida and BanSabadell Pensiones announced the inclusion of a new financial award aimed at a project that offers socio-occupational opportunities for vulnerable groups.
The 10 institutions that pitched their projects during the event were:
A+familias: They support families in vulnerable situations with an innovative model based on the digitalisation of social aid, individualised support, their own resources and resources from third parties. This aids’ digitalisation facilitates the traceability of information, for donors and users, providing more transparency and accurately measuring their impact.
Experientia Association: They support individuals and teams/companies/organisations in their growth process and in taking care of their mental health through experiences. They swap offices for nature to improve personal and occupational well-being. Their organisational wellness programmes fund nature therapy and adventure therapy programmes for groups at risk of social exclusion.
COPEDECO S. Coop: With “R-Genera”, they create employment and improve the level of employability of people at risk of social exclusion from a holistic perspective, empowering people through training in ecological agriculture, beekeeping and ecotourism and supporting the process with guidance and occupational intermediation. Furthermore, they create jobs for the regenerative cultivation of organic almonds on land given on a long-term basis by local councils through its job placement company.
ENSUMA Social Employment: The “Eco-Trans” project seeks to transform part of its organic fruit and vegetable production into canned vegetables through a community workroom, creating jobs throughout the process for people with severe and prolonged mental disorders, supporting them in their life projects and generating social impact.
EuroPACE Foundation: They promote the energy rehabilitation of buildings and houses, creating a new player capable of generating demand and transforming the refurbishment process which is traditionally slow, stressful and complex, into a simple, affordable and quality process based on technical, administrative and financial support for families.
Ared Private Foundation: With the “Weaving together new opportunities” project, they create backpacks and accessories with sustainable design and social impact, for companies and individuals, and empower and raise the profile of people with disabilities who manufacture these products by putting them in direct contact with the end customer, through a catalogue of corporate volunteering opportunities for the collaborating companies.
Integra Pirineus Private Foundation: With the “Donem Vida al Bosc – CO2” project, they create alliances with companies that share their values to continue to promote the socio-occupational inclusion of vulnerable groups, through sustainable forest management (SFM) and biomass production in the Pyrenean forests.
Tac Osona Foundation: They create job opportunities for people with intellectual disabilities and/or mental disorders through their agri-food workroom, where they make a quality product with their own brand: “Patatas Sant Tomàs” potato crisps. An initiative that brings more awareness to social economy and reaches all areas of the public through the development of an everyday consumer product. Tac Osona is the social enterprise of the Sant Tomàs Foundation that offers stable employment for this group geared towards social inclusion.
Blum Foundation: social impact company builder. They create social enterprises to tackle the challenges that women face based on proven solutions.
Oxfam Intermón Foundation: With the “Trans4ma Programme”, they transform social economy companies and organisations, so that they can improve their business models and generate impact by offering decent employment to people at risk of social exclusion, and putting the Oxfam Intermón Fair Trade marketing networks at their disposal. Unebox is one of these marketing options, which is a subscription discovery box with products manufactured by the Trans4ma institutions that allows them to gain access to the Spanish public.
